Welcome

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/11-1.png
Welcome to The Animal ARC – Our Haven of Hope.
Every day is a new opportunity to save a life. In this loving sanctuary, you’ll encounter stories of hope, survival, and unshakeable courage – the stories of our animals waiting for a new home.
We face daily challenges: medical care, food, upkeep, and the deepest desire of every animal, to find them a loving home.
Your support is crucial. Every donation, no matter how small, represents a significant step towards a happier life for our beautiful animals.
As you enter our Animal ARC, let yourself be touched by their stories, and become part of our mission.
A loving home for every animal, healing for every broken heart.
Because together, we can create miracles.

Our Grazing Animals

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/9-1.png
We have over 100 rescued horses, donkeys and ponies that graze freely across 75 acres of land. They come from all over the island, often in foal, so we now have a quite a number of babies that were born here.
The donkeys especially love to interact with our visitors and are often seen waiting by the main gates for people to arrive.
We would ask you to refrain from feeding them once inside the ARC and avoid carrying plastic bags as they will think it is food. They are also partial to investigating backpack!
PLEASE REMEMBER – they are large animals and whilst the donkeys love a cuddle exercise caution around them, especially if you have young children. And please, do not place children on their backs.

Our Dogs

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/16-2.png
Hunting is prevalent in Cyprus and whilst there are many responsible owners there are also those who discard the dogs at the end of the season, only to breed again for the following season.
The result is many abandoned dogs left to starve. Exhausted breeding bitches surplus to requirements and animal cruelty that is simply too shocking to mention.
So it is no surprise that the vast majority of dogs we rescue are hunting dogs. Frequently they arrive in a very poor condition and will spend a considerable time at our clinic undergoing medical treatment before coming to the Animal ARC.
We currently have over 800 dogs at the Animal ARC. When they arrive we will assess their temperament and they will be placed in one of our communal kennels where they will join other bitches or dogs and they soon settle in to their new environment.
Dogs by nature are pack animals and thrive alongside other dogs if given the love, care and attention they deserve.
With numbers constantly increasing giving the dogs the space they need is our top priority and we welcome regular sponsorship to help us achieve this.

The Dog Kennel
Before rehoming, all of our dogs are sterilised but this may not be done immediately so when they arrive we separate them.
The Bitches Kennel – adjacent to the Exercise Enclosure
The Dogs Kennel – to the side of the Boarding Kennels
The Dog House – for mixed breeds and the smaller dogs who have been sterilised as well as the puppies. This is also where we prepare all of their freshly cooked food daily.
Boarding Kennels – opposite the Exercise Enclosure. For private boarding and also for the dogs who are being prepared for re-homing.
Individual Kennels – Behind the Boarding Kennels and next to The Dog House there are individual kennels housing some of our larger breeds.

Our Cats

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/23-1.png
We have over 800 rescue cats and kittens at The Animal ARC. When they arrive they will be sterilised at our clinic before being transferred to the ARC where they will be quarantined for 15 days before joining the colony.
They are free to roam and come and go as they please. You will often see them with the donkeys and horses or lying on a rock enjoying the sunshine.
They are also partial to following you around and wanting a cuddle.
The cat house
Inside there is a combination of individual pens, private boarding and also a communal area where they are fed.
In the winter mattresses are brought in along with heaters to keep them warm and dry.
They are the most chilled cats in Cyprus!

Our Smaller Friends

Tucked away behind the Bitches Kennel you
will find the rabbits. The enclosure is looked after one of our most loyal supporters who comes every day to feed and clean their pens.
We currently have over 40 rabbits with us.

Caring For Our Animals

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/25-1.png
At the Animal ARC we have a strict daily cleaning, care and feeding routine.
Cleaning
The enclosures and houses are sanitised every morning as well as kept clean throughout throughout the day to remove waste products. Fresh bedding
is provided.
We do not use straw or hay for bedding as it harbours many insects and parasites. Our horse, donkey and goat stables are mucked out daily.
Feeding
Our dogs and cats received a mix of wet and dry food provided in stainless steel trays and bowls.
We receive off cuts from many kind business supporters and the food is freshly cooked daily on the premises.
Our horse, donkey and goats are fed a mix offodder and hay.

Medical care
All of the animals are observed and any that may need medical treatment are take to our clinic where they will stay until they are signed off by the vet to return to the ARC.
For the horses and donkeys our vet visits them at the ARC
Our clinic can accommodate over 100 animals at any given time, this being a mix of animals from the ARC, animals recently rescued and in need of urgent medical care, feral cats brought in under our free SPAYCYPRUS programme that are returned to their colonies as well as private veterinary clients bringing in their pets.
Imagine a very busy A&E department of a hospital, this is our clinic, which operates at this pace 365 days of the year.

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Inner-Boxes-Images-ARC-4.png
Over 4000 animals will pass through our door every year, many are re-homed, many are returned back to their colonies and many will stay with us at The Animal ARC.
To give you an idea of the amount of food and medication we need to care and treat our animals:
Every day our cats eat 80kg of dry food plus 30 tins of wet food
Every day our dogs eat 170kg of dry food
Our horses, donkeys and goats get through 800 rolls of hay a year plus their fodder.

https://animalrescuecyprus.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/11-1.png
At the clinic we sterilise on average 30 cats a day
The operating theatre is used every day as is the x-ray and diagnostic equipment
We have over 100 in- patients every day who require medication to treat and keep them healthy
We need a constant supply of cleaning products and bedding to keep our animals safe and warm.

To house, care and treat our animals we need regular monthly donations, Can you help?
